Professional Stylists Reveal the Best Celebrity Hair

How do celebrities get such beautiful hair? We speak to Australian hair professionals to find out the secrets behind gorgeous A-list locks.

According to celebrity stylist, Joey Scandizzo, the first thing he notices in beautiful hair is "shine". You can tell when you think of his celebrity clients: The Veronicas, Ruby Rose and Paris Hilton, to name a few.

"You want to see hair be thick and lustrous yet still be able to move," Joey explained. "That way you know it is because it is healthy and not because it is layered with product or hair pieces and ‘Hollywood’ smoke and mirrors!”

When it comes to celebrity hair, cut and colourist, Marie Uva, who has worked with Rebecca Judd and Jennifer Hawkins, says they have three things in common:

  • Regular at-home care, with plenty of hair treatments to keep it healthy and shiny
  • Regular colour maintenance - usually every six weeks
  • Regular trims. As Marie explained: "I've never seen a celebrity with split ends!"

So, what should my 2017 "celebrity hair" schedule look like?

  • Daily:

"You need to make sure you are constantly stimulating your scalp to get the blood flow to the roots," Joey explains. That is why daily brushing is imperative to keep the follicle healthy, move away stubborn oils and help hair grow healthier and stronger.

If you style your hair daily, Marie insists on protection! "Always be sure to use a heat protection spray prior to your day-to-day styling with heat tools," she urges. "This will help protect your hair from damage caused by blow-drying, straightening or curling, in turn reducing your chances of hair breakage."

  • Weekly:

Marie notes that hair treatments are also a great habit to adopt. Joey agrees, noting that during summer, as the air is drier and you may spend more time swimming and outdoors, you need to replace lost moisture to maintain vital hydration.

  • Monthly:

Get a trim. "To keep ends sharp and healthy and to prevent split ends," says Joey.

Which Aussie celebs should I look up to?

Joey's pick is Dannii Minogue. "[Her hair is] really well looked after and she always has it cut regularly and treats it really well," he explains. "Dannii loves playing around with it which is great and knows she has to take care of it to make sure it always looks great.

Meanwhile, Marie thinks her client Rebecca Judd's hair is on point. “Rebecca Judd has beautiful hair, extremely healthy, shiny and in optimal condition,” Marie notes. “Her colour is always beautifully fresh and her styling is always on trend.”
