According to eBay Australia, over half the nation will shop online this Christmas. This Sunday, December 12, is predicted to be the busiest shopping day of 2010, with more than one million Aussies expected to visit the site. Women’s shoes are tipped to be the most popular purchase with more than 1,500 pairs expected to be sold!
Meanwhile, a recent survey by Australian shopping website brandsExclusive, found that almost 40 per cent of Australians spend more time shopping online than exercising, In fact, almost 1 in 3 respondents would label themleves as an ‘online shopaholic’.
“Many people find shopping enjoyable and an ideal time to relax and indulge themselves,” says popular culture commentator, Melissa Hoyer. “Now that you can shop wherever and whenever you want online, people are preferring it to exercise and TV.”
While we'd never suggest you throw in your exercise regime for shopping, there seems little doubt that jumping online can help you nab a bargain - with the majority of items cheaper than when buying in-store. For example, Mavi Jeans which retail for $179 are $74.99 on brandsExclusive.
Despite the high Australian dollar sending many online shoppers to international websites, 69.7 per cent of respondents said they still prefer to support local Australian websites.
