First Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck split, then Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and now, another one of Hollywood’s favourite couples have called it quits!
After 40 years together, Miss Piggy and Kermit The Frog have called time on their relationship, confirming their split in a joint statement posted on twitter.
Their split comes just days before the debut of their new show The Muppets in the US. However, the pair have vowed to continue to work together for the sake of The Muppets franchise.
Within hours of them announcing their split, Kermit admitted he's already seeing other people, after a romantic offer from actress Emmy Rossom.
.@emmyrossum Hi-ho, Emmy! Unfortunately, I'm seeing someone else... Denise. She's in publicity at the network. She's sweet, you'd like her!— Kermit the Frog (@KermitTheFrog) August 4, 2015
Meanwhile, Miss Piggy seemed confident and happy with their choice to separate.
“It’s good publicity. I’m glad we’re broken up. This is going to be great for moi’s stardom. Now everybody’s going to worry about oh, who’s she dating? Who’s she getting caught snogging with?” she said at a Television Critics Association panel discussion about their new show.
“I have no problem working with my ex, okay? It’s fine. Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”
Since the split, rumours have been rife that Kermit’s wandering eye and flirtatious behaviour with his Muppets Most Wanted co-star, Tina Fay, was the final straw for Miss Piggy.
At the time of filming Tina suggested that her character Nadya, would be a better match for Kermit than Miss Piggy.
"Nadya is less work than Piggy," she said. "You can give Nadya bag of hot rocks for Valentine's Day. She will not care."
The couple have worked together on numerous Muppet productions since they began working with each other in the 1970s.
