Melissa McCarthy is First Female to Win MTV Comedy Award

All hail the queen of comedy, Melissa McCarthy!

Over the weekend she became the first woman to be honored with the Comedic Genius Award at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards - go Mel!

Crowd surfing to the stage, (yes, you read that correctly) to accept her award, Melissa thanked all of the incredible female comedians before her.

"In all seriousness, I may be the first woman to receive this award but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it," she said,

"I think I am a walking human patchwork of all the remarkable funny women who I have loved and studied over the years. I m only here because of Carol Burnett, Jane Curtin, Phyllis Diller, Whoopi Goldberg, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Lucille Ball, Gilda Radner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Diane Keaton, Tracey Ullman, Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin [and] my mom, Sandy Lynn McCarthy."

She also took the opportunity to applaud Bruce Springsteen, who recently cancelled his North Carolina concert in protest of new state laws which stops transgender people from choosing bathrooms consistent with their gender identity.

Could she be any cooler!? Check out her awesome entrance and her acceptance speech below.
