Mariah Carey has spoken out for the first time since her split from Aussie billionaire fiancé James Packer, saying "everything happens for a reason".
After a whirlwind romance, the 46-year-old singer became engaged to the Aussie media mogul early this year.
Then just 10 months later, reports surfaced that the couple had decided to end their relationship and the wedding was off.
Now, for the first time, Mariah has spoken out publicly about the split in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
The TV host invited the singer onto a special festive episode of her talk show for a chat. After discussing Mariah's tendency to "run late" and her love of wearing diamonds, Ellen broached the subject carefully in the context of her docu-series - Mariah's World.
"You had a highly publicised relationship and you were engaged," Ellen said. "And you were trying on wedding dresses in your docu-series - and we see the behind the scenes of that. And it's pretty personal. And now you're not together anymore..."
"And now it's a whole friggin' thing," Mariah exclaimed.
The singer was then asked how she was feeling "mentally" after the split, to which Mariah responded: "I think I'm doing well.. Everything happens for a reason. Things are the way they are."
Mariah then went on to intonate that her fiance had actually agreed to be on the reality series initially, before asking to be edited out. "He didnt want to be in the docu-series at all," says Ellen. "And yet hes in it. You see him."
"Allegedly," Mariah replied.
"It's difficult to talk about at this moment," she said cautiously, before changing the subject and making it clear the topic was closed... for now, anyway.
