Let’s face it - mums rock. And on this Mother’s Day, we pay tribute to our super mums by sharing the best advice they ever gave us.
From the compassionate words to the courageous, mums tend to know just what to say when we need it the most. Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful mums out there!
Mark – Head of Digital
Best piece of advice my mum ever gave me was to live a happy life. It’s simple, but it took me a while to tell the difference between doing things for other people’s happiness and doing them for my own. I’ve always found the question “Does this make you happy?” a good one when I need to make a call on the value of something. Thanks Mum!
Hannah – General Manager
“At times of extreme stress or when something sad happens in life, treat yourself like you are sick and be kind to yourself.” My mum is the true matriarch of our family and keeps us all in line in her own extremely cool way!
Glenn – Group Creative Director
“Life’s too short to worry about making a tit of yourself.”
Brigitte – Head of Marketing
My mum has as always told me I can do anything I put my mind too. So this year we surprised her with sky diving (sorry mum), and even though she is afraid of heights she did it! She is one amazing lady.
Elise – Social Media Producer + Beauty and Style Editor
Whenever I’m having a bad day or a tough time, I always turn to my mum for support. The best advice she ever gave me was “You’re not the first person this has happened to and you won’t be the last. You, too, will get through it.” It’s always a great reminder that the world isn’t going to end after a break up or a pile of bills.

The best piece of advice my mum ever gave me was “Life is what you make it. So make the most of everyday and above all else make it fun!"
Rebecca – Food Editor
I think she trusted my sister and I to make a lot of our own decisions but taught us how to be honest and kind – which served as a good guide for making those decisions. One thing that sticks in my mind is ‘Never go to bed angry’. If you’re ever having a tiff with someone, always make up before you go to sleep! I think this was part of making sure my sister and I always knew we were loved, even if we were fighting. And I guess also to make sure we had a good sleep!
Sarah – Brand Manager
Mum always told my sister and I that we could be anything we wanted to be. That and give a firm handshake, and look them in the eye.
Janet – Head of On-Air and Promo Production
“Always find a reason to laugh.”
Aisha - Senior On-Air and Promo Production Coordinator
Mum's full of advice - these ones I get almost weekly: 'Don’t believe everything you think', 'Breathe', 'Always do something for you' and 'Worry is a misuse of your imagination'.
