Katy Perry: Queen of Quirk

She’s kissed a girl (and liked it!), lived out her teenage dream, and spoke out for California girls - who claim to be so hot they’ll melt your popcycles!

But just as chart-topper Katy Perry, 26, appears to have done it all, out comes her latest single Last Friday Night (TGIF) in which she introduces us to her nerdy alter-ego Kathy Beth Terry!

Born into a strict Christian family, thanks to her pastor parents, Katy hit the big time when her controversial single I Kissed a Girl soared through the charts in 2008. Her choice of lyrics made her an instant sex kitten, and her bright, kooky fashion sense made her a style icon to teens and twenty-somethings worldwide.

But like her 13-year-old alter-ego Kathy, who lists Sudoku puzzles, the solar system, high-school science fairs as her biggest loves, Katy knows all to well what it’s like to be a teen wanting to stand out from the crowd.

“I was always the kid at the dinner table who, if there was a line you shouldn’t cross, I took a big leap over it,” the star admits. “That’s always been me. There’s never really been, like, an edit button on my keyboard of life. I guess my parents weren’t ever so shocked when I was singing very frank or honest songs.”

Now happily married to equally honest and controversial British comedian Russell Brand, Katy is showing no signs of slowing down.

Just like her 2008 album One of the Boys, her latest album Teenage Dream is jam-packed with catchy tunes, including hits Firework, E.T., and now, Last Friday Night (TGIF) – which embraces her teen years… nerdiness and rebellious moments all included!
