Jennifer Lopez on motherhood: 'I thought it wasn't going to happen'

JLo says she is "forever grateful" for her twins.

Jennifer Lopez has spoken candidly about how becoming a mother changed her life.

The 'On the Floor' singer was 38 when she and then-husband Marc Anthony welcomed twins Maximilian and Emme.

Speaking on The Today Show in the US, Jen revealed that she always wanted kids but feared it might not happen for her.

"They just made my life so much better," Jennifer said as she teared up. "I'm forever grateful

"I didn't have kids until later and so I almost thought that it wasn't going to happen for me, so I'm very aware that I was blessed with that. It could have been something different."

She added that she doesn't take one day for granted when it comes to spending precious time with the children.

JLo and Marc famously introduced their twins to the world back in 2008 when People magazine paid a reported $US6 million for the photos.

The twins recently celebrated their ninth birthday and Jen posted a heartfelt tribute to the pair on Instagram to mark the occasion.

"I can't believe it's nine years ago today that God entrusted me with the biggest blessings of my life," she wrote.

"He finally sent me my beautiful twins... I immediately felt bonded, protective, overwhelmed with emotion and like the luckiest woman on this earth."
