It was dubbed the most awkward moment to ever occur on live TV. So, naturally, the Internet had some interesting and hilarious responses.
Yesterday, Miss Universe pageant host Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner of the contest.
While he awarded Miss Colombia the crown, he later interrupted her victory lap to redact his announcement - giving the award to Miss Philippines instead.
I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.— Steve Harvey (@IAmSteveHarvey) December 21, 2015
While he apologised for the error, it was a bit too late for the Twitter crowd...
If you think it's tough getting out of bed this Monday morning, imagine how Steve Harvey feels. #MissUniverse2015— Jennifer Peros (@jenperos) December 21, 2015
However, the masses quickly moved toward forgiveness.
I wouldnt fire #SteveHarvey. Show me a man who can admit a mistake to the whole world. I will show a man of unquestionable intergrity— Bruce (@odenbk) December 21, 2015
before you rip #SteveHarvey today, have you ever screwed up at work? We all have.— Stu Schwartz (@StuntmanStu) December 21, 2015
It appears Harvey displayed the same grace and poise demanded of all those who stand upon the Miss Universe stage - and in turn won over the hearts of internet commentators.
But all that aside, I think it's clear what would have been the best outcome for all involved..
