Helen Mirren Thanks Kim Kardashian For Changing Beauty Standards

Dame Helen Mirren has some kind words for Kim Kardashian.

Kimmy K cops a lot of flack for her lavish reality TV lifestyle and penchant for nude selfies.

However, she can be thanked for one thing: bringing the booty into the mainstream.

At a time when we were blasted with the bodies of Paris Hilton and Kate Moss, the early noughties presented the perfect opportunity for Kim's curves to break through and revolutionise body image in western culture.

And there's one woman who is eternally grateful: Dame Helen Mirren.

"I'm not into the Kardashians, it's a phenomenon I just don't find interesting," she said in an interview with The Telegraph.

"But -- and this is the big word: B-U-T-T -- it's wonderful that you're allowed to have a butt nowadays! Thanks to Madame Kardashian, and before her, J-Lo. We're also allowed to have thighs now, which is great too. It's very positive.

"When I was growing up, it was thought to be unbelievably sluttish to even have a bra strap showing. Everything was about women conforming. I love shameless women. Shameless and proud!"

She went on to mention Madonna, Joan Jett, Pussy Riot and others who "raise their middle fingers to this epithet of 'slut.'"

"They wear what they want to wear, behave as they want to behave," Helen said in support.

Earlier this week, Kim also made a statement about her nude selfies saying she can't believe people still care.

"My personality has never been, 'I'm such a feminist and follow me and be naked!'" she told radio program, Recode Decode.  "If you are conservative and that's how you are comfortable, more power to you. I respect you. You don't have to look at what I do."
