Get The Look: Beautiful Summer Braids

Braids don't have to be something left to the salon. Master four braided looks below, for effortless glam this summer.

Summer is the perfect time for braided styles, making it easier than ever to go from the beach to the bar. Follow the expert tips below by Rebecca Hubbard from the Paul Mitchell Artistic Team, on mastering four different celebrity-inspired looks.

1. CENTRE CROWN BRAID

The centre braid plaited running backwards from the top of the crown is a big trend coming from catwalks around the world. To perfect this high fashion trend it is important to get the width and length of the braid just right.

EXPERT STYLING TIPS:

1. Part hair in a straight centre part

2. Take a one inch section from either side of the part line, creating a VERY clean straight part line on both sides from the front of the hair to the back of the crown

3. Plait the hair you have sections from the top of the crown in a thickish braid

4. Draw a straight line up from the back of your ears to the top of your head, this is where you want your braid to end

o This style is best worn with the remaining non-braided hair worn loose and slightly wavy

2. SIDE BRAID

The side braid is a super simple braid to create and is easily worn day or night.  It is a perfect styling choice for both short and long hair and can be worn as a single sided braid to double sided braid.

EXPERT STYLING TIPS:
• Style a side braid with thin tight sections if you want a more intricate head turning style
• Loosed up the braid and take thicker sections for a more causal  boho feel
• Always finish the braid at the nape and tie off in an elastic to match your hair colour
• Change up a side braid look by going between a hair down style such as beach waves, or a messy hair up bun for a dressier look

Product Recommendations:
PAUL MITCHELL WORKED UP spray is fantastic for hold and flexibility.

3. FRONT BRAID

The front braid plaited across the forehead is a timeless elegant style that is back in vogue again this summer.  With a little know how the look can perfectly compliment a simple up-style or summery long hair worn down.

EXPERT STYLING TIPS:

• If you are not a seasoned “braid wearer” this is a great style to start with as it does not need to be too neat, tight or perfect and can be worn with a degree of versatility
• Great if you who need more height at the forehead, as once you have braided the hair you can lift the front sections to create that extra height
• For a soft or more undone look leave pieces of hair out to soften the style
• This look can also be started on a side part or lower if you what more a front head band effect

Product Recommendations:

4. FULL BRAID

The full braid is a gorgeous summer statement style for both long and short hair. It can be work loose and wispy or tight and perfectly styled for a more sophisticated finish.  This style works for medium to long hair, as you need enough length to hold the braid in place all day long.

EXPERT STYLING TIPS:
• Applying a medium hold hair spray to hair before braiding will help hold the style in place
• If you want to wear your style loose and wispy ensure to leave your fringe area free from the braid and begin the braid lower down towards the nape
• A finer fish tail braid is right on trend and creates a very elegant finish that can be work day or night
