The pair are now the proud parents of a baby boy and a baby girl!
George and Amal Clooney have welcomed twins, with the actor joking in a statement that he is ‘recovering well’ after his wife gave birth on Tuesday (US time).
“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives," George's publicist said in a statement.
"Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”
The pair chose traditional names for their children with Alexander meaning the defender of men and Ella meaning beautiful fairy.
Friends of the pair say they are “very happy” with their new arrivals.
"This is very good news. We’re very, very happy. George is going to be a great father of twins," a family friend told PEOPLE.
The 56-year-old actor recently spoke about becoming a dad for the first time.
"My favorite part is, you know, all my friends who are my age, and I have many of them, they're already done. Their kids are all grown up and away to college and they are laughing," he said.
"We went out to dinner the other night, and it's a table of eight guys and all their kids are away in college, and we are sitting there and they were all being very supportive, 'Everything is going to be great, you're going to love it.' Then it got really quiet, and they all just started making baby crying and the whole table just busted up laughing."
Despite the banter between friends, George said he and Amal were really looking forward to becoming parents.
"We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure," he added. "We've sort of embraced it all with arms wide open."
The pair, who wed in 2014, announced earlier this year that they were expecting twins.
