In an EXCLUSIVE interview with LifeStyle YOU, TOWIE star Lydia Bright talks all things Essex!
Lydia spills on life after Arg, all the behind the scenes secrets and talks about the pressures of looking good in front of the camera.
Are you surprised by the popularity of TOWIE and its success?
I am so surprised by how TOWIE has taken off. Nobody could predict the success the show has become. The cast and crew are still stunned to this date. We won a BAFTA and last time I checked, we were airing in 79 countries worldwide. It’s amazing to think how many people are interested and entertained with our lives.
It must have been hard to film scenes with your ex Arg. Do you still talk, or have you gone your separate ways?
Arg and I never talk anymore, which is the best way. Too much happened and there was too much heartache to ever be friends.
How much of what we see on the show is real?
This is the most popular question that people ask me. The cast never gets a script to learn. Everything we say is from our own thoughts, although the environment is set up. The show will find a location for us to film and choose the cast they want to film there. Then we turn up to the location and will be given a couple of relevant topics to talk about. For example, if two cast members were breaking up, the show may ask us to give our opinions on the relationship and break up. If you don’t feel comfortable discussing something, you will never be forced.
Did you enjoy having your mum Debbie join the show?
I loved having my mum on the show. My mum and I have such a special bond. She is more than just a mother; she is my best friend and more. She knows me better than anybody in the world. Naturally if I were going through a hard time in my life like a break up, she would be the first person I would talk to.
Are you close with anyone in particular from the show?
I am very close to my mother of course, and my good friends Lucy (Mecklenburgh) and Lauren (Goodger). I still keep in regular contact with Jess (Wright), Billie and Sam (Faiers).
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently filming an online dating show that I do with a hilarious guy called Jim Chapmen. It’s called dating dilemmas and airs every Tuesday. You can catch that on YouTube. I have also launched my own YouTube channel called LydiaRBright where I film all kinds of bits including bake offs with my family, fashion tips and generally keeping people updated on my life. I’m also working on another online show that airs on Yahoo OMG called Spin the Bottle, that goes live once a month which is super fun. I’m launching my AW13 collection and about to do a UK summer tour of my store Bella Sorella, where we are opening stores in seven of the biggest cities around the UK. So we’re very busy at the moment!
We’ve seen a lot of the girls from the series over the years undergo a style or beauty transformation. Has being in the spotlight put a certain amount of pressure on you, to always look good?
I think if I said no, I would be lying. We always want to look good in front of the camera, but I don’t see it as pressure. I really enjoy pampering and beautifying myself.
You always look amazing in the media, whether it’s running errands or on the red carpet. What’s your diet and exercise regime like at the moment?
I try to exercise three times a week. I normally do a circuit class on a Monday and visit the gym twice a week, and use the weights and mats to do floor exercises. I always train harder if I know I have a charity challenge coming up. I cycled 485km around India last year for a children’s hospital in London and raised £35,0000, so I obviously had to train a lot more for that.
What are your favourite brands or ‘go-to looks’ for daytime?
I love the high street; you can pick up such beautiful pieces and get spoilt for choice. I will always work a cropped jean, a pair of court patent heels, a statement necklace and a bright satchel.
What would be your ideal outfit for a night out with friends?
My ideal outfit would be a statement party dress. I love lace and crochet so I would say the Kitty dress from my collection with a killer pair of red heels.
And how about for a date night?
Something girly and cute like the Sandy dress from my collection with a pair of nude heels and simple hair and makeup.
What beauty products could you not live without?
My Rodial Glamtox Cream, Burt’s Bees Lip Balm, and my St Ives Facial Scrub.
