Using these eight words officially means you are NOT a bogan.

An etiquette expert has released the words that, he believes, mean you are officially middle-class.

Manners coach William Hanson, who’s described as one of the world’s leading experts in politeness, has shared the key words and phrases that prove you’re not a natural bogan.

William’s list was released in the UK first but many believe it applies perfectly to Australia too.

So if you've ever wondered if you're more Kath and Kim than Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, now is your chance to find out...

So what are these eight words or phrases?

  • Pardon?
  • Toilet
  • Pleased to meet you
  • Bubbly or ‘fizz’
  • Avocado
  • Catchment area
  • Fitbit
  • Vegan

But is it really as simple as this?

Apparently so, according to William, who also runs classes in hosting the perfect dinner party and etiquette in business.

He says that if you use these words in every day conversation you are proving to others you know how to speak properly and you don't shorten words.

Apparently saying 'toilet' instead of 'dunny' proves you have some class, as does saying 'pardon' instead of, 'eh?' 'what?' or 'uh?'.

Sounds to us like it's a bit of a stretch and what's wrong with every Aussie embracing their inner-bogan self!?
