The 12-year-old breakout star of Dance Moms has landed her first film role, to be directed by none other than Sia!
At the Venice Film Festival this week, Sia revealed her plans for the film Sister in which Maddie is set to play the leading role.
"I was too embarrassed to tell anyone I wanted to make a movie because I thought it would be seen as a vanity project because I was a singer," Sia shared. "And then last year, after I made the 'Chandelier' video, I realised I was pretty good at directing, so I felt a little bit braver."
With this being her first go at screenwriting, Sia enlisted help. "I paid a guy from a juice bar to help me write it, who had gone to film school, and it turned out it wasn't quite right," she said. Turning to friend and children's book author Dallas Clayton, Sia reveals "he and I spent three-and-a-half weeks just on the sofa, mapping it out."
Maddie may not have any prior film experience but one thing's for sure, she's clearly a natural in front of the camera, having appeared in three of Sia's video clips.
The plot for sister is yet to be revealed.
