Emily Dufton - a fan of low-maintenance beauty regimes - was on the hunt for a CC cream that delivered on coverage, SPF and ease of application. Enter IT Cosmetic's CC Cream, the cult beauty buy she'd recommend to anyone.
I'm always sceptical of products claiming to 'do it all'. Three-in-one shampoo, for example, leaves a lot to be desired and I have no idea what to do with multi-purpose highlighting kits.
But ever on the lookout for a product that's super easy to use and creates the illusion I've made an effort (I usually haven't), I was intrigued by a friend's claims that IT Cosmetics had a multi-tasking foundation I needed to try.
Disclaimer: I hate wearing makeup
I only wear mascara for very special occasions, I've been living off moisturiser with SPF and a thinly-applied layer of MAC Studio Fix as my main form of coverage for the last 10 years and I feel thoroughly overwhelmed when buying new cosmetics.
So, feel reassured this is a sceptic's review of CC cream ('CC' stands for 'colour correcting', FYI) and, when I say I was impressed, I actually mean it.

How to apply
Before purchasing the CC cream, I was colour-matched by Sephora to find the right shade for my skin tone.
The salesperson applied a rich moisturiser to my skin first, but I've since applied the cream myself with and without moisturiser or primer and the result is just as good. If you have a very dry skin, moisturiser and primer could help the foundation sit more evenly on your face.
Once my skin is primed (or not), I squeeze just over half a full pump of cream onto my hands and use my fingertips to dab dots on my cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. I then use either my fingers or a Beauty Blender to apply and blend the cream all over my face. A foundation brush would also work well.
Because I'm so averse to heavy makeup, I usually blot the area between my eyebrows and above my lip with a cotton pad to remove any excess foundation, as it tends to build up a little more in these areas. Once you're happy with the way it looks, just continue to apply your usual makeup on top - easy!
The result was subtle, natural and not at all shiny, but noticeably evened out my skin tone and gave it a gentle glow.
The cream blends really smoothly because the highly-pigmented formula will colour-match your skin tone, so even if you aren't amazing at applying foundation, you'll be hard-pressed to give yourself any horrible tide marks across your neck or ears.
As an extra time-saving bonus, the cream also contains SPF40, meaning I can skip the step of applying SPF moisturiser which I usually do each morning.
I have quite an oily T-zone and have noticed by the end of the day the cream makes my skin slightly oilier than usual, but overall it makes my skin feel soft and moisturised.
The friend who recommended I try the cream loves the illuminating version and her skin looks glowy and gorgeous when she's wearing it, but I'll be sticking the matte version for a slightly more natural look.
IT Cosmetic's CC cream is slowly working its way into my daily makeup routine, given it only takes a few minutes to apply and makes a visible and instant difference.
