Alex, tell us a bit about what you have been up to lately?

Lately I’ve been very busy with Australia’s Next Top Model, designing a range for DIVA, working on my next summer range and of course it’s been really exciting collaborating with Specsavers for the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

Can you tell us about what fashionistas are wearing for this spring racing season and why?

This racing season is going to be dominated with rose and nude colours, floral and animal prints. DARBY DAY is a black and white theme so make a statement with black sunglasses or add a splash of colour to your outfit with coloured sunglasses.

Summer is fast approaching. What should we be buying to be on trend?

It’s a white hot summer - watch out for those whites and nudes which will be really popular and team them with a gorgeous tan pair of sunglasses for blondes and black or silver for brunettes.

The party season is on its way – can you give us some tips on what to wear as evening/formal wear? Are there any breaking new trends that we should be aware of?

There is a huge 1920’s influence at the moment focusing on classic style with corsets and big skirts or pencil skirts, feathers and lace.

Why did you decide to be a judge in the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition? What are you looking for as a judge? How does a woman wear glasses well?

I wanted to encourage people to treat their spectacles as a fashion item; to co-ordinate them like any other accessory in their wardrobe and to be creative! As a judge I’m looking for someone who wears their specs with pride and confidence and oozes specs appeal!

Do glasses need to be updated each season like other items in our wardrobes or are they considered classic investment pieces? Are there any particular brands, shapes, styles, colours and materials that are in fashion right now?

Classic styled glasses will always have a place in a woman’s wardrobe but like with all fashion they can also be updated to throw a new edge to your outfits for different seasons. There are no set rules, just try heaps on and have fun with them.

Lots of women probably get stuck in a rut wearing the same glasses day in and day out, not thinking about their potential as a fashion accessory. What advice and tips would you give to these women?

Treat your glasses the same as you would treat any other accessories or make-up - you don’t wear the same stuff all the time! Updating your glasses for a new style edge is a lot simpler than updating your entire outfit. Specsavers offer two glasses for one low price so you can afford to have different looks for different occasions.

Tell us about a red carpet dress you’ve made that is your favourite. Why is it a favourite and who was it for?

I made a beautiful red evening gown for Miranda Kerr. It was a classic, red fishtail evening dress - just gorgeous.

What websites do you like to visit?, Australia’s Next Top Model website & Facebook

Where would you like to go for a holiday next and why?

Greece. It’s my favourite holiday destination of all time - I try to get there every year, it’s about the sun, relaxing and amazing food!
