By now, you’ve probably heard about Zimbabwe’s much-loved lion Cecil, who was shot and killed by US based dentist Walter James Palmer.
Using a bow and arrow Palmer allegedly paid $55,000 to shoot and kill the famous lion, who once roamed the Hwange National Park.
The internet, and Zimbabwe conservation groups, reacted with outrage over the killing, as have numerous celebrities who shared their disappointment on social media.
This #WalterPalmer is a poor excuse of a human being!— Cara Delevingne (@Caradelevingne) July 28, 2015
#WalterPalmer is Satan. I don't know how anyone could go to this man for dental services after this. He is a killer. Beware!— Sharon Osbourne (@MrsSOsbourne) July 28, 2015
Perhaps the most outraged was Ricky Gervais, who posted several tweets about the senseless killing.
It's not for food. It's not the shooting, or tin cans would do. It must just be the thrill of killing. Mental. http://t.co/0fjtXoC1ML— Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) July 28, 2015

Since the shooting, a petition calling for justice over the killing of Cecil has gained more than 130,000 signatures. The petition is asking for Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe to stop issuing hunting permits.
