'Cancer slayer' Shannen Doherty announces she's in remission

Finally, some good news for Shannen Doherty in her battle against breast cancer.

Two years since her breast cancer diagnosis, Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty has announced she's in remission.

Delivering the update via Instagram, 46-year-old Shannen said she's "overwhelmed" by the news.

"Today was and is a moment. What does remission mean? I heard that word and have no idea how to react. Good news? YES. Overwhelming. YES," she wrote to fans.

"Now more waiting. As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait."

Shannen was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015, revealing in 2016 that it had spread to her lymph nodes. She underwent a mastectomy as well as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

During her cancer battle, Shannen invited fans to follow her experience through a series of often-inspiring and, at other times, heartbreaking social media posts.

In her latest Instagram post, Shannen pondered her options over the next five years, including the possibility of a breast reconstruction.

"In the meantime, decisions. Reconstruction which is several surgeries. Decision on taking a pill for the next five years that comes with its own set of problems and side effects. I am blessed, I know that. But for now... remission. I'm going to just breathe," she shared along with the hashtag #CancerSlayer.
