9 Ways to Amp Up the Romance in Your Bedroom for Valentine’s Day

So you’ve got the perfect dinner date set up for Valentine’s Day, but what about when night falls?

According to the team at online homewares retailer TheHome.com.au, with a little time and a few tips and tricks you can make your bedroom more inviting for love.

Here, they share their top top tips for preparing your bedroom for a night to remember!

The cheat sheet for perfect sheets

Make your bed with fresh, clean sheets – remember to use fabric softener when washing them for extra smoothness. You can also make the bed smell extra fresh by spraying some scented linen water on the bed linen. Bamboo sheets in 400 thread count are great for lovers. They have a luxurious feel and are made of breathable material so they will cool you down while you’re getting hot hot hot.

Iron and size up

If you want to make your bed look extra inviting and crisp, take the time to iron your bed linen. For an even more luxurious look, go up a size (e.g. from queen to king) with the doona cover so the edges of the doona wrap nicely around the mattress

Budding romance

The association between flowers and romance has always been strong, and research has even proved that the presence of flowers makes us start thinking, speaking and behaving in a more romantic way. So get some fresh flowers and put them in a beautiful vase in your bedroom window or on both (read next tip) bedside table.

Tidy up

A messy, dirty home will make your love interest doubt your hygiene and wonder whether they were not worth tidying up for! Once you’ve made sure your bedroom is clean, make sure to de-clutter. For instance, if you have your laundry hamper in your bedroom, move it out of sight. Also, get rid of any items you don’t want your date to see – think teddy bears, risqué magazines or photos of exes!

The scent of love

Scents are strongly linked to romance, and can be used to provoke sensual feelings. Vanilla, sandalwood and rose have long been used as aphrodisiacs, and scents such as jasmine, patchouli and ylang ylang are also associated with romance. Get a scented candle or a diffuser, and spread the scent of love in the air.

Create a soft glow

When it comes to lighting, the key is to create a soft glow throughout the whole room so avoid using your overhead fluorescent lamp. Create a soft, cosy glow by scattering flameless candles around the room. They can be safely placed on window sills and beside tables without the fire hazard!

Pillow talk

There's nothing worse than having to throw 18 decorative pillows on the floor before hopping into bed. Reduce it to four pillows and a couple of accent cushions and save the mess!

Create balance

Having two bedside tables show you have room for someone else in your life, and it's also much more visually pleasing. Also, when it comes to style, tone down the pink and florals and mix with more feminine style with décor and hints from a more masculine interior style such as the industrial trend for balance.

Soft floor

Plan for the day after. You’ll want your date to hop out of bed onto a soft surface, not the awkward edge of a rug or onto floorboards – especially after a night of serious cuddling! So place a floor covering such as a plush sheepskin rug in the area where you will step out of bed.
