Want to look stylish while still breaking a sweat? It's as simple as following a few fashion rules.
Chief Stylist Ginger Ressler of brand Fabletics (founded by Kate Hudson) shares her expert tips on choosing active wear for winter that combines both functionality and fashion.
1. Brighten up
Winter doesn't mean you have to stick to dark colours. Go for a printed legging or top to brighten up your look.
Wear thin layers you can take off or add on as you continue your workout so that you aren't sweating excessively. A long-sleeved seamless top, layered over a tank and sports bra, paired with leggings will keep you warm, but not looking like the Michelin Man.
3. Show off
Don't be afraid to show some skin during the winter. With thin layers and fitted clothing, you can still stay warm while showing off what you've worked hard all year to accomplish. Wearing bulky clothes will cover up problem areas and make you more likely to skip workouts, so continue to wear fitted clothing and accentuate your favourite areas. It'll help remind you to stick to your workouts!
Invest in active wear that can be worn not only for workouts, but going out as well. A great wrap cardigan or jacket can transition your look from the gym, or can be mixed in with your regular wardrobe and a cute bootie for running errands or going to lunch with friends.
The biggest trends for winter 2015 are puffer vests and jackets with different silhouettes and interesting details.
Ginger's Fitness Tips
- It can be hard to stay motivated and stick to your workouts during winter, especially when the days are short. Try setting spring and summer goals that you can start working towards to keep you on track, and workout in the morning. Waiting until evening when it's dark and really cold will make it much more tempting to skip the workout.
- Mix up your exercise routine and keep things interesting by trying out new workouts. By changing your workouts, you'll work different muscle groups and challenge yourself in new ways.
- Struggling to balance work and family life? Set priorities and stick to them to find your balance. You can't do it all, so don't try. Learn to be ok with saying no - don't feel the pressure to meet crazy demands!
