Winter is the best season to start Laser Hair Removal as it gives you time to complete your sessions, and stay indoors post-treatment. Here are the top 5 commandments so you can have silky smooth skin just in time for summer.
Winter is well and truly underway, meaning less time spent outdoors and more layers to pile on. It's a much easier task in the cooler months to undergo Laser Hair Removal, with less skin exposure.
To ensure you have silky smooth skin for summer, Paramedical Aesthetician and Founder of You by Sia Clinics Sia Hendry, shares her top 5 commandments.
1. Thou Shall Not…wax or pluck hairs from the treatment area!
Laser Hair Removal works by targeting each hair follicle with light in order to eliminate the hairs. After a few treatment sessions the follicles become weaker, which reduces hair growth and eliminates the risk of ingrown hairs. Waxing and plucking is to be avoided before and during the course of Laser Hair Removal Treatments as both processes remove the hair follicles at the root. It's recommended that you wait 4-6 weeks after a wax before you begin Laser Hair Removal.
2. Thou Shall…shave or trim the chosen area prior to treatment
The less hair that is present on the surface of the skin, the more energy the laser can deliver into the hair follicle. By shaving or trimming the hair before your treatment, you’re removing the bulk of hair while leaving the root intact - this will help increase the efficacy of your laser treatment.
3. Thou Shall Not…sun tan prior to treatment!
It's a well-known fact that Laser Hair Removal works best on naturally pale skin and darker hair. By tanning the selected area of skin prior to treatment through sun exposure or fake tan, you are effectively reducing laser efficacy and your chances of attaining great results.
4. Though Shall…take good care of your skin after treatment!
Now that your skin is silky smooth and fuzz-free, you want to keep it that way. A good mineral sunscreen filled with active ingredients and protection will not only shield your delicate skin from sun exposure but nourish and repair any sensitive areas too.
5. Though Shall…be diligent with maintaining your results!
Once your laser treatment course is complete, it is advised to book 1-2 top up treatments per year for those pesky random regrowths.
