What’s ‘in’? What’s ‘out’? What’s hot? What’s not? We ask hair and makeup artist Liz Talga, Salon Manager, Bauhaus Hair.
What colours will be 'in' for makeup this spring?
“Colours of the ocean: beautiful blues and greens along with golds. BELAVANCE by LA BIOSTHETIQUE has some incredible new shades coming through this spring which I can’t wait to get a hold of.”
What are some easy ways to update your makeup look for spring?
“Freshen up your colours. Get rid of yesterday’s pencil. Add something new to the mix. Use a new coloured pencil on the eye and smudge it to almost nothing – like a gorgeous Azure. Eye shadow can sometimes look a little heavy for spring. Don’t hold onto old makeup either. Whilst there is no need to throw out everything, most women are guilty of holding onto their eye products for way too long – so get a new mascara this spring.”
What are some easy hairstyles for spring?
“Firstly, having fresh, clean, healthy hair. I really like LA BIOSTHETIQUE Bliss Repair for keeping hair in good condition. As for styles, relaxed, beachy hair is always a perennial favourite. For work, having a shiny, glossy, sleek ponytail always looks fresh and professional. The best way to have gorgeous hair is to use a great conditioner and treatment.”
What makeup products should you use more in spring?
“Anything that hydrates the skin. Keep a little bottle of spray-on rose water handy at your desk (especially if in air conditioned spaces). If your skin is healthy, then whatever you put on top will look brilliant. If you don’t need to update your foundation, just add a little moisturiser to it and this will give you instant hydration. And of course, using light weight make up and tinted moisturisers for Spring is ideal – just ensure that everything contains an SPF.”
What product are you obsessed with right now?
“Glow Base by LA BIOSTHETIQUE – it makes the skin looks fresh and luminous. This is like a primer but has a little colour added to it. Great for use under your foundation and helps retain a beautiful luminosity of the skin. And MAC Blot Film – this keeps the luminous look alive but removes the oil. So much better than touching up all day with powder as it avoids the cakey look.”
What would you like to see women do more of in spring?
“For skin - go lighter with the application of makeup and exfoliate lips and use an SPF tinted lip balm. For a new hairstyle – update or change your colour – this gives such a dramatic update to a look. Get a lessen on how to do your hairstyle – it’s not enough to just get a great cut, you need to know the ways in which you can style it. At Bauhaus, we see this as a really important part of educating our clients on what to do with their style. And it should never be difficult.”
Which celebrity do you think does spring makeup well?
“Jessica Morais and Esther Anderson – two Aussie girls. They do the fresh face look really well. And as an international, Keira Knightley is wonderful for having that light touch.”
Is there anything you would like to add?
“Consider getting Great Lengths extensions this Spring. They will add such a fabulous lift to your look – even having as few as 30 will give an increase to your hair’s volume and will dramatically change your face – as our stylists say “it’s better than Botox”.
