Do you know which supermarket sells the best roast chicken?
Well, Canstar Blue has announced the first-ever winner of its Supermarket Roast Chicken review for 2020 – and the result has surprised some shoppers.
The consumer research group compared roast chickens from Woolworths, Coles, Costco and IGA and based the results on taste, freshness, packaging design, value for money and overall satisfaction.
And as most of us love to grab a supermarket barbecued chicken for an easy week-night meal, the results are very interesting.
Especially as only one retail giant’s roasted chook received a “near perfect score”.
And the winner? Canstar Blue found IGA “roasted the competition to top our ratings.”
The store’s roast chickens received full marks, including four stars for value for money but five stars for every other category.
Costco's chooks came in second place, after receiving five stars for value for money, freshness and satisfaction.
Woolworths were placed third while Coles came fourth.
Both Aussie supermarkets chooks received four stars for value for money, while Woolworths also received four stars for Freshness.
The winning chook results were the findings of a giant survey by Canstar Blue who asked 1900 Australians to rate any supermarket roast chickens they’ve purchased and eaten in the past three months.

"I always buy my chook from Woolies or Coles," said one. "Never thought that IGA would sell good ones."
"Will try my Costco chicken tonight," said another. "This could be good!"
"Wow," added a third. "A roast chicken from IGA is next on my list!"
