The latest cordless Dyson vacuum, the V11, has just been released onto department store floors. These products have a cult following, and here's why their latest machine is the best one yet.
I remember when Dyson first released their first-ever V6 animal cordless vacuum. It absolutely revolutionised my life and the way I cleaned. No fussy cords, no need for the strategic planning of the power outlets I chose to use and the easiest empty mechanism, ever.
I used my V6 for a long time - because Dyson products are just that good - and eventually passed it onto my mum to make her life easier as I upgraded to the V8.
Both vacuums are still working well, so for some, it's a case of 'why would you upgrade?' Well, I'm here to tell you exactly why the shiny new V11 at $1,099 is worth the extra money.
The battery life lasts longer
Each time Dyson releases a new cordless vacuum the battery life gets longer and longer. I recall the V6 I had only having a maximum of 20 mins continuous run time. It wasn't enough to do my whole house, but because I wasn't carrying around cords, I didn't really mind breaking the floor clean up into two sessions.
Since then, the products have evolved and the V11 now has up to 60 minutes of cleaning, with seven larger, high-capacity cells that give a deep clean.
It adapts to your floor type automatically
Previously, I'd use the V8 hard floor attachment on my floorboards and switch over to the carpet attachment for any rugs or carpet. The new V11 still has these two attachments, but if you're in a rush, or are feeling lazy, the Dynamic Load Sensor actually detects the type of flooring you're on, automatically communicating with the motor and battery’s microprocessors to change the suction power between carpets and hard floors.
The best part about this? Run time is automatically extended on the hard floors as you move between the two, and it requires no extra work as you clean. Genius.
It tells you exactly how long you can use it for
This is a game changer - even for Dyson products. Previously, you'd never really have a gauge on how long your battery would last before it stopped. Now, an LCD screen on the top of the V11 lets you know exactly what's happening and how much you can get out of your battery with an easy to follow minutes and seconds clock, as well as performance mode.
The screen also reminds you when to clean filters, and much like a fancy office printer, the V11 alerts you to any blockages and gives instructions on how to clear them.
The suction is more powerful
The V11 has 20 per cent more suction power than their predecessor, the V10, which is pretty powerful. This is all down to the triple diffuser, which straightens airflow and reduces turbulence which makes it easier to promote suction, all while reducing the working noise.
Greater suction means it's easier to clean your surfaces. After vacuuming my mattress, which is only six months old, I couldn't believe the dust and dirt it managed to extract, without much effort from my part at all. No judgement, please!
