Why Kate Middleton’s iconic engagement ring was actually meant for Meghan Markle

An incredible act from Prince Harry saw the stunning sapphire ring make its way to the Duchess of Cambridge instead.

The world looked on in awe when Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with a beautiful sapphire and diamond ring belonging to his late mother, Diana. But according to a royal insider, this ring was actually not supposed to be William’s to give.

Gifted to Princess Diana once by her then husband, Charles, the 12-carat oval ring now sits upon the Duchess of Cambridge’s finger, but could have very well ended up with Meghan Markle.

According to The Diana Story documentary, Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell revealed that after her passing, Harry was gifted the famous ring, and William chose her Cartier watch as a memento.

But, when William decided he was going to propose, Harry insisted he do it with the precious ring that held so many memories for the family and gave it to William in 2010.

Paul detailed: "Harry said to him, 'Wouldn't it be fitting if she had mummy's ring? Then one day that ring will be sat on the throne of England.’”

“Harry gave up his precious treasure,” he continued. “The one thing he kept from his mother; he gave to his brother. That's selfless, kind, and exactly who Diana was.”

We always knew the brothers were close, but this touching story just confirms how much the pair really care for each other!
