Why Kate Middleton removed Diana's engagement ring AND her eternity ring

The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted without two of her most precious royal accessories - her priceless engagement ring AND her eternity ring, causing concern among eagle-eyed royal watchers.

While Kate's Welsh gold wedding band could be clearly seen on the fourth finger of her left hand, her 12-carat sapphire engagement ring that originally belonged to Princess Diana was missing, as was her 18 carat white gold eternity ring,

The eternity ring, made by Anoushka, was thought to be a gift from husband Prince William after the birth of Prince George.

Now, Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate's reason for removing her famous rings was due to health and safety restrictions.

Yesterday, Kate visited Evelina Children's Hospital in London to take part in an art workshop run by the National Portrait Gallery.

She was asked to remove her rings because she was visiting the children's wards, and it could have been a potential hygiene hazard for children who are unwell.

Kate's engagement ring famously belonged to his mother, the late Princess Diana and is the most famous blue sapphire ring in the world.

It consists of the famous 12-carat oval blue sapphire, cut into facets, and surrounded by fourteen solitaire diamonds. Its setting is made from 18K white gold.

Last year, Meghan Markle was also spotted without her engagement ring during a royal tour of South Africa.

Yesterday, when news broke that Kate was not wearing her rings, one royal watcher wrote on Twitter, "I saw there were no rings on Kate's hands and my initial thought was that we had another royal scandal on our hands. Please no!"
