The Queen's move that pushed Prince Harry to quit royal life

Further revelations have emerged about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal departure.

The reason Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally decided to leave the royal family was after a snub from his grandmother, The Queen.

Finding Freedom, the book which delves into the pair’s royal departure and their new life in the US, claims their decision was made after the Queen’s 2019 Christmas message.

During the broadcast the Queen had several family photos on her desk, but Harry, Meghan and their son Archie were noticeably missing.

The royals featured snaps incon display included the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their family, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and King George VI – the Queen’s father.

The book’s authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim the couple became upset after realising they were missing.

"Harry felt as though he and Meghan had long been sidelined by the institution and were not a fundamental part of its future,” the book claims.

"Palace sources insisted that the photos were chosen to represent the direct line of succession, but for Harry and Meghan, it was yet another sign that they needed to consider their own path."

Another royal reporter has backed up the book's claims, saying the absence of their picture is what made their decision final.

“"The lack of photograph of them during the Queen's Christmas speech obviously had an effect on them... They felt it was a slight, they felt put out," Daily Mirror Royal reporter Russell Myers revealed in a documentary called, Meghan and Harry: The New Revelations.

Soon after the broadcast the couple announced they were leaving royal life forever.

In January the Queen announced the pair had decided to stand down from their royal roles and had requested to become financially independant.

In the historic move, they gave up use of their HRH status and had to repay the £2.4 million of taxpayers' money spent on renovating Frogmore Cottage.

The couple recently moved into a $14million home in Santa Barbara where they are raising their son Archie after a short stint in Canada following their departure.
