See the House Made Entirely Out of Cardboard

A new home design is eight times more durable than your average home - but it's made out of cardboard!

Dutch construction innovators, Fiction Factory, have discovered a fascinating way to make a home that is both sustainable and flexible by using cardboard as its main material!

The Wikkelhouse, which translates to 'Wrap House', is made from 24 layers of cardboard, bonded and shaped in to a "house-shaped" mould.

The property is made using five-square metre interlocking pods, meaning you can connect as many as you like to make your home as large or small as you wish.

And while it takes only a day to assemble, the Wikkelhouse is anything but flimsy. In fact, its manufacturers say it was built to last for 100 years.

The cardboard mould is later covered in wood and receives a waterproof coating to help it survive the elements.

The Wikkelhouse is pitched as being anything from an office, to a holiday home, to a permanent residence, but internal features such as a bathroom and kitchen are add-ons.

The Wikkelhouse costs 25,000 Euro, based on three segments, plus delivery costs.

These cardboard homes are currently only available in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourgh, France, the UK and Denmark, but keep your fingers crossed they'll reach Aussie shores in the future!
