Petersham House, NSW: Before and After

Take a look at the amazing Petersham house makeover for our 100th episode in one of the hottest property markets in the country - Sydney's inner west.

To celebrate our epic milestone, the team took on a huge challenge all in the name of charity. For almost 100 years, this heritage house in the suburb of Petersham has been owned by the Salvation Army. Dozens of families have been housed within the classic brick walls of the property. But the problem is, it was very run down and almost unliveable. Our job was to renovate and sell the property – and every dollar made on the sale will go back to the Salvos.

The house was dilapidated but has some strong features, including a formal lounge and dining room, ornate cornices and ceiling roses. The downside to the large five-bedroom layout is that there’s only one decent-sized family bathroom.

The free-standing house has its own back garden which is cluttered and overgrown, and the front is in dire need of an upgrade – but it must be in keeping with its heritage style. This is one of the biggest, toughest, and most rewarding renovations taken on by the SHA team.
