Love It Or List It Australia

Love It Or List It Australia reno recap: Wheelers Hill, VIC

We take a look at the latest episode of Love It Or List It Australia with Andrew Winter and Neale Whitaker.

Sam and Uttam are in agreeance about the fact that their home (as it stands) doesn't work as a family home.

Sam has a strong sentimental attachment to their 1970s home with it sitting on the street that her family first came to when they moved to Australia from India. Her family has also stayed quite close by so the kids have their cousins a few minutes away to play with. Given this, Sam is certain that a renovation can make Uttam change his mind to 'Love It'.

Uttam thinks the family has simply outgrown the home and is after something that has a bigger backyard for their kids and larger, open spaces that are good for entertaining.

Andrew's case to 'List It'

Andrew agrees with Sam that Wheelers Hill is certianly a lovely spot in the world. "It's a leafy suburb close to parks, schools, big blocks and views of the Dandenong Ranges," he says.

However, this certainly doesn't mean Andrew thinks they should stay!

"I would of course sell Wheelers Hill - the ceilings are low and the rooms are small," he says. "While Neale has made a tremendous difference, is it big enough for this family? Absolutely not."

Neale's case to 'Love It'

Neale pretty much had a major remodel on his hands to address the issues that Sam and Uttam had.

"This was a back to front house. The home technically had two living areas, but one of them was so poorly located and proportioned that it became the dumping ground," he says. "So, we raised the floor level to match the rest of the house and created open-plan living. Large sliding doors were installed to give connection to the deck and reveal that beautiful garden and parkland view."

The verdict

Despite Sam admitting that Andrew got her thinking about sqaure metres, the sentimental factor was too strong.

After a lot of thought, Uttam realised he had a strong emotional connection to the home and now their issues have been addressed, they both love it and it truly feels like home.
