A new paint colour can make a huge difference to any room, and it can be a useful tool as well as a decorative feature.
One of my favourite ways to use colour is to brighten and open up small, forgotten areas. An entry or small reading room is the perfect place to introduce colour without taking over the whole house.
One thing to remember is: cool shades recede, while warmer tones advance!
Here are some tips:
- Opt for blue, grey, or green colour schemes.
- Use bold colours on features, but balance it out with white areas - especially focus on your trims!
- Paint your trims the same colour as your walls to distract from the horizontal and vertical lines breaking up your small space.
- A gloss finish will open up a small room, but I prefer only using a semi-gloss in bathrooms and kitchens, not living spaces.
