We've seen the big reveal on Grand Designs Australia, but what do the new homeowners really think about their new dream build?
Every week, Lifestyle will bring you the inside scoop on each Grand Designs Australia’s homeowner thoughts. From their favourite aspect of their home to what they’d do differently, this week we chat to David and Sarah about their dream build in Mt Tamborine, Queensland.
The couple knew they had landed on a special block of land with rolling green hills, natural forest and a running creek.
"We wanted a small house with the feeling of being spaciousness and utilising the natural surrounds," David says. "Since our brief allowed the architect a whole lot of flexibility, the outcome was a complete surprise - a pleasant one though, we're so thrilled!"
For Sarah, her favourite space in their new home is the master bedroom. "I love the wood panelling it just feels really cosy and warm and I love the big window that we've got because you just look out into the trees and rainforest," she explains. "I also love the indoor/outdoor verandah and BBQ area."
David agrees, but also highlights the bath house. "Opening those doors while having a bath and sitting in nature is a really lovely experience," he says.
While the pair wouldn't change any certain features, David mentioned that it will be nice for them to live in the home across all seasons to see how the house handles different climates.
"There are no changes structurally, though, we wouldn't change anything; it's spot on," David adds.
David was heavily involved in the entire building process and he enjoyed every moment. "Excitement grew for me every step of the way and I loved engaging in all aspects - even painting in the eleventh hour of the build," he tells.
For Sarah it was an experience to see their dream build come to life. "It was nice to see the plans, which I couldn't always work out on paper, in real life," she tells.
"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience so it's something to saviour," David adds.
