We've seen the big reveal on Grand Designs Australia, but what do the new homeowners really think about their new dream build?
Every week, Lifestyle will bring you the inside scoop on each Grand Designs Australia’s homeowner thoughts. From their favourite aspect of their home to what they’d do differently, this week we chat to Craig and Barbara about their dream build in Dee Why, New South Wales.
Barbara really enjoys the covered-in deck area as the family didn't have one previously. She is also a fan of the statement staircase: "The timber blocks that jut out of the wall look fantastic," she tells.
The overall layout and the indoor swimming pool are winners for Craig."I use the pool every morning. I get out of bed and head straight down and have a swim. It's a great way to wake up and it's low maintenance," he says.
The only thing the couple flag is the oversized fish tank.
"It's lovely, but it was a lot of hassle getting it done," Barbara tells.
"The big problem is scrubbing off algae," Craig reveals. "I have to get in it and scrub it off."
The build also took quite a toll on the pair.
"It was really hard and I guess we didn't realise how long it was going to take," Barbara admits. "Four straight years is quite tiring."
"When the reveal was filmed, we were still finishing up and hadn't had a break yet and I was still exhausted," Craig explains. "But now we have had time to relax and we're enjoying it."
Barbara agrees: "It's great coming home to a beautiful place and we built it with these wonderful insulated panels and double glazing, so it's beautiful and warm."
