Upgrading your space doesn't have to be hard with these tips.
From making a room seem taller to brightening up your living space, these five design hacks from Allianz will help inspire your next home makeover.
Tip 1: Colour is king
When designing your home, it pays to perfect your colour palette.
Choose colours that will compliment your space and work with the mood you want to set.
Then think about how you can bring it to life in every room.
If you decide to have more than one colour throughout the home, choose colours that will complement each other so that you create a consistent flow throughout your home rather than having a hotchpotch of colours that jar with one another.
Tip 2: Go vertical
If low ceiling heights are a problem, anything that draws the eye upward is your friend. Think vertical stripes, floor-to-ceiling bookcases and bold visual displays that use vertical lines. You can also buy low-slung furniture to make a room seem taller than it actually is.
If space is at a premium, choose appropriately sized furniture to match the size of the room. A small two-seater sofa and a chair will look much better in a small room than a huge lounge suite that takes up almost the entire floor space.
Tip 3: Brighten things up
Painting the ceiling a slightly paler version of the wall colour helps brighten up a room. You can carry this through to an entire space by using darker colours for the floors, medium colours for the walls and lighter colours for the ceiling.
For gloomy areas of your home that get little or no natural light, a skylight can have a dramatic effect, instantly brightening up an area and making it feel much more airy and inviting.
Tip 4: De-clutter your bathroom
There’s nothing worse than a cramped bathroom. To maximise every metre, ditch the shower curtain or frosted glass shower doors and replace them with clear glass. It will open up the area and make it feel so much bigger.
Another great space saving tip for bathrooms is to build recessed shelving or cupboards into the walls. Recessed shelving is particularly useful for storing your bottles of shampoo and body wash in the shower, rather than having them taking up space on the floor in the shower tray.
Tip 5: Reflect your personality
Nothing screams elegance like a large mirror in a small room. It can add a sense of light and space while creating an illusion of depth. Just make sure you know where to put it. Hang it up or lean it against a wall for maximum effect.
You can even go a step further by adding some quality lighting above or around the mirror to create an extra touch of glamour.
