Peter Maddison takes us behind the scenes on Grand Designs Australia.
Grand Designs Australia season eight dishes up some of the most extreme builds ever featured on the series. Here, host Peter Maddison takes us through some extra insights from this week’s episode: Chris and Tabitha from Toolangi, Victoria.
Coming up with a solution
"Chris and Tabitha have come up with a solution that suits this location (a high-rated fire zone) - the way they've built it with insulation is impressive. Since they've always wanted to live in this area due to the fantastic landscape, it was a great story to follow. There's nothing overly extravagant about it and I like that on many different levels."
"When I pitched in and helped lay some parquetry, it wrecked a pair of my jeans! I can't get the glue off them! But it was a great day. We had glue everywhere and it had a great story behind it. Finger parquetry is very fiddly and each of the 18,000 odd pieces were cleaned and sanded down by Tabitha."
"Design for them was inspired by a country sensibility about time gone past with antiques and artifacts that were polished up and repurposed. They've also got a fun big-shed heating system."
