Love It Or List It Australia

Australia's most in-demand suburbs revealed

Do you live in Australia's most desirable location?

Sydney may have one of the hottest property markets in the world, but it seems Australians are looking elsewhere for their dream home.

Berwick has been named Australia's most searched for suburb, according to new data released by realestate.com.au.

This leafy Melbourne suburb was one of eight locations in Victoria to land in the top ten in-demand locations of the past six months.

Those searching for property also had their eye on the likes of South Yarra and Werribee.

Despite, or perhaps because of, Sydney's popularity and soaring prices, none of its suburbs made the top ten.

Coastal town Port Macquarie took the crown as the most searched for suburb in New South Wales - the only NSW location in the top ten.

Most searched for suburbs on realestate.com.au

1. Berwick, VIC
2. Port Macquarie, NSW
3. Pakenham, VIC
4. Sunbury, VIC
5. Point Cook, VIC
6. Frankston, VIC
7. South Yarra, VIC
8. Surfers Paradise, QLD
9. Werribee, VIC
10. Mornington, VIC

So why the lack of more traditionally sought-after suburbs on the list?

Younger buyers being priced out of many areas is partly to blame, as compromising on location becomes the aim of the property game.

A recent survey by Australian property developer AYMCI found millennials care 50 per cent less about the location of their home than those in the 65+ age bracket.

Another factor is existing owners choosing to renovate their properties to capitalise on its equity, rather than list it and move on.

This stay or go dilemma is familiar to many Australians and is tackled on new Lifestyle show Love It Or List It Australia.

Watch hosts Andrew Winter and Neale Whitaker below as they help Chris and Jess decide whether to love or list their Queenslander home:

Love It Or List It Australia airs Wednesdays on Lifestyle at 8.30pm.
