Top Tips to Becoming a Vet

Considering becoming a vet, but not sure where to start or whether it's right for you? A sample of Australia's qualified vets, share their tips.

These top tips will allow you to gain an understanding of what it takes to become a vet.

1. Work hard

Work hard and don't be afraid to work for free at a vet clinic or a zoo, where you can start getting some experience. See if you like it first, before you commit.

2. Don't be discouraged

Don't be discouraged if you don't get quite high enough marks to study veterinary science. There's always that option to study just one year of another course, before transferring over.

3. Allow for reflection

Understand that some days are definitely going to be harder than others. Not everything goes your way, and sometimes you've just got to go home, reflect, and hope that tomorrow is better. And then at other times you get the different end of the spectrum.
