Essentials for your 'Pet First Aid Kit'

It's important to keep the health and safety of your beloved pets in mind by preparing a special 'pet first aid kit' for them.

The humble first aid kit is a useful essential to have ready for any accident or emergency, with these best kept in places such as kitchens, cars, garages and bathrooms.

However, it's also essential to prepare a special 'pet first aid kit' for your furry friends too.

Keep these in your car for those road trips out with your dog or in the laundry room so you can help your pet when they're in need of medical aid.

Here are the top items to add to your pet first aid kit.

Gauze pads and bandages

Clean the affected area, removing dirt and other debris with the gauze pads, finally dressing the wound or injury with bandages.

You will also want to include saline water in your kit to clean wounds and flush out dirt.

Muzzle

As a safety precaution, muzzles are important to keep in your pet first aid kit. In times of pain and stress, you never know how your pet may react, so it's best to keep these at hand.

Blanket

Have a shock blanket or old towel in your first aid kit, to help keep your pet warm and provide comfort in an emergency situation.

Scissors and tape

Keep bandages and gauze pads in place with hypo-allergenic tape. Make sure to also have a pair of scissors handy to help cut pads to the appropriate size and snip bandages.

Pet food

Provide some comfort to an injured furry friend by having some dry or canned pet food stored away in your kit.

This can help to take your pet's mind off the pain temporarily and help prevent them from licking their wounds.

Tweezers

Equip your kit with a pair of tweezers to remove splinters and other debris from cuts and wounds.
