11-Year-Old Girl Learns to Walk With Dog's Help

Bella Burton was born with Morquio syndrome, which affects her bone growth and limited her mobility.

After ten surgeries and endless physical therapy, Bella still struggled to walk without her crutches or wheelchair. But thanks to the support of her beloved George, a 58kg Great Dane service dog, Bella was finally able to move around on her own.

The Service Dog Project trains Great Danes to help people who have mobility issues. While they normally reserve Great Danes for adults, they knew Bella was ready for George.

“Once we saw Bella being around those dogs, how she was always in such a great mood and she loved going there, we thought, ‘What are we waiting for?'” the organisation recalled. “When she was visiting George and he didn’t want her to leave his kennel, they were like, let’s try them.”
