Woolworths shopper left shocked after making 'unacceptable' discovery in store

The shopper certainly wasn’t expecting to find this on the bare supermarket shelves.

A disgruntled Woolworths shopper has taken to Facebook after making an “unacceptable” discovery at a local store in Melbourne.

While shopping at the Gladstone Park store the shopper was surprised to see the state of the shelves in the drinks aisle.

Posting the image to Facebook, the concerned shopper pointed out how much dirt and dust had built up across the metal shelves, questioning why they hadn't been cleaned.

“This is the state of a lot of shelves at Woolworths Gladstone Park,” he wrote.

“It is unacceptable and should be cleaned immediately. Store manager today tells me new shelves are coming in two to three weeks as he can’t get a cleaning team in to clean them.

“I have reported this three weeks ago with head office and nothing has been cleaned since. Does COVID-19 and hygiene ring a bell?”

One Facebook member responded, saying that it wasn’t the teams fault during these difficult times, as Melbourne goes into Stage Four Coronavirus lockdown.

“Right, it's awful, but If they cannot clean it because they cannot get cleaning team in, what do you expect them to do? Wait 3 or 4 weeks and then you'll see if they installed the promised new shelves,” they said.

In response to the concerned customer’s comment a Woolworths representative commended the shopper for pointing it out.

"Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We agree, these shelves don't look the best,” the spokesperson said.

“We've reached out to our Gladstone Park team who have let us know they've arranged for these to be cleaned over the next few weeks. We hope you see them looking better on your next visit.”
