Woman's 'Sponge Cake' prank goes viral

This prank takes the cake! Quite literally.

One shopper has undertaken the ultimate prank - after purchasing a vanilla cake from Woolworths, the wife decorated it to look like a real dish sponge and plated it for her hubby to eat.

Taking to Facebook page Mums Who Cook Alice Munro shared a snap of her creation.

"I thought I would make a sponge cake for afternoon smoko... ( the look on my Husband's face 'priceless'", she said.

And her husband wasn't the only one who was confused by the ordeal, with many rushing to the post to say that they were questioning whether it was an actual dish sponge.

"Is this a real cake? The colour looks like an actual dish sponge but I've never seen the scourer part that thick before. The colours look spot on if it is a real cake." one wrote.

"Gaaaaah makes me cringe. The thought of biting an actual sponge haha I don't know if I could try this one! I've got shivers just looking at it." another said.

However, others shared words of encouragement and even their own funny tales.

"That's the greatest thing I've ever seen!!" one added.

"Ooohhh this might stop the kids from eating it!" a second suggested.

"Not all heroes wear capes! You’re a legend!" a third said.

"I sent my husband to the shop once to buy a sponge cake and cream and he come back with a dish sponge," one more shared.

Some Facebook users even suggested Alice should have "photographed hubby’s face" to see his reaction.

If you're game enough to try it, you can find the recipe here.
