Enjoying 'trashy' films is a sign of intelligence, journal reveals

New findings reveal that consuming a large amount of 'trashy' films is actually a sign of intelligence.

Are you a connoiseur of 'trashy' movies but afraid to admit it? Now you can step out proudly to declare your wealth of knowledge as a study reveals that enjoying these types of movies is a result of high IQ.

Gone are the days of being deemed 'uncultured' and low-brow - as Kevyan Sarkhosh and Winfried Menninghaus from Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics publish their findings in Poetics: Journal of Empirical Research on Culture, the Media and the Artsstating their case.

The academics conducted a survey with the general public, in particular those with a strong interest for 'poor-quality' films, and were intrigued to find the audience was highly intelligent.

Their findings reveal that one of the reasons intelligent people are attracted to these films is the ironic value, finding humour in the shallow nature of the film.

Another point was the audience noticing the culturally subversive elements. 'Trash' films tend to have a less routine plot and execution, which appeals to intelligent audiences who generally would decode the direction of other regular mainstream films.

However, intelligent audiences also noted the over-the-top drama, acting and bizarre plots in 'trashy' movies, which they find equally hilarious and terrible, citing the films are 'so bad it's good'.

So, do you count yourself among this intelligent audience?
