Is this the future of grocery shopping?
Welcome to a revolutionary way of doing your groceries that will change how you shop.
Woolworths has rolled out a contactless shopping experience for shoppers allowing them to “pay as you pick”.
The service, which is currently being trialled in Queensland, allows you to scan items as you select them off the shelf.
Meaning you can tally up your total as you shop and no lining up at the end! Here’s how it works.
To get started, you need to register as a Woolworths Rewards member. After downloading the app, you select you preferred payment method, linking your card to your profile.
Once you are all set up, you simply scan your items tracking the balance as you go.
Basically, anything with a barcode can be scanned and added to your basket.
For fresh produce, you simply select what you would like, weigh it on the scale and scan the barcode produced by the scales.
When you’re finished you skip the queue and head straight to a dedicated Scan&Go register. Here, you simply scan your QR code and follow the propmts to payment.
The new Scan&Go service has been rolled out in Queensland and is available to Woolworths Rewards customers at 18 different stores around Australia.
Single mum Stephanie Evans, who recently trialled the new service at the Logan Hyperdome store, south of Brisbane said the service was very convenient.
“It's going to mean going shopping on your own is a lot easier," Stephanie told 9News.
“You don't even have to pull out the card. It's (already) done."
If the Logan trial is successful the Scan&Go service could be rolled out across South-East Queensland.
Woolworths will now look at conducting checks on the technology over the next few months to ensure the service is up to scratch.
