It looks like there’s nothing you can’t make in the air-fryer - Massaman chicken curry included!
One savvy cook has shared her recipe for making a quick and easy Massaman chicken curry in the air-fryer and while it looks delicious it’s causing a bit of a stir.
The air-fryer fan posted her recipe to the Kmart Air-Fryer Recipes Australia Facebook page, saying that she makes the simple recipe in her 3.2L air-fryer.
Many people questioned exactly how she cooked the curry using the air-fryer.
But the trick to making it work is to remove the basket and place the marinade and chicken straight into the base of the air-fryer.
All you do is cook at 200 degrees for around 25 mins turning once. Here's her recipe:
- 300g chicken thigh
- 2 garlic cloves crushed
- 266ml coconut cream
- 55g massaman curry paste (I used Valcom)
- 2 Tbs peanut butter
- Marinade for a few hours and then pour into the BASE of the airfryer (remove basket).
- Cook as above and slice chicken to check cookedness before eating
While many people commented, saying her method of cooking was genius, others questioned the safety of the recipe saying they’d never cooked without the air-fryer basket.
“It has in my manual to not cook in base all ways use basket (not in them exact words),” one person said.
“I didn't know you could use the air fryer without the basket,” commented another.
“This looks good and I'd love not having to look after it on the stove but doesn’t the air-fryer say not to cook without the basket?” another questioned.
Editing her original post, the recipe creator commented again saying: “Eeeek I didn’t realise this would cause a stir re: cooking without the basket.
“Obviously if you are not comfortable with this please follow manufacturer’s instructions.
“I cook without it all the time and you just have to be careful pulling it out as to not burn your fingys! I also never played by the rules."
While she cautioned others to be careful not to burn themselves, many fellow air-fryer fans revealed they also cook this way.
“I cook without my basket all the time!!! Honey mustard chicken is a good one,” one person said.
“I cook without the basket all the time and have never had an issue,” commented another.
“Wow! This has changed the game,” commented a third.
