Aussie shopper's simple hack to get hundreds of dollars off your supermarket shopping

An easy way to get big discounts off your shopping at supermarkets and stores all around the country has been revealed and hailed as a 'life-saver'.

It’s such a little-known discount hack that most Aussies aren’t aware it even exists, until now.

The tip first appeared online about a year ago, but just recently it's re-surfaced as more families are looking to save their cash during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Originally writing on a Facebook group, one member called Lisa asked other followers if they were aware that they could get discounts at their favourite stores through their car breakdown/recovery service. All you need is a valid membership.

While most of us know our card can get us discounts on various services, few are aware that it's possible to get 5 per cent off  every supermarket shop - just by purchasing an e-gift card through a car breakdown service.

Through most RAC and NRMA memberships around Australia, you can buy an e-gift card, with a 5 per cent discount.

This means you can buy a $50 card for $45 and then do your shopping with the card – saving yourself five per cent.

Over the course of a year, this can add up to huge savings.

"This is a life-saver," said one shopper on-line. "Especially when money is so tight."

"I've known about this for years," said another "I'd never shop any other way."
