After three years of hosting the baking series, Sandi exits the tent.
She's the witty and sharp humoured host that brought a new sense of style, hilarity and experience in Great British Bake Off. After co-hosting the series with comedian, Noel Fielding for three years, the presenter has announced that she'll be leaving the show to "focus on other work projects".
Sandi currently hosts QI after continuing the role in Stephen Fry's departure, however there's been no word on whether she will keep this position in the wake of her announcement.
Since joining Bake Off in 2017, the presenter has made lifelong friendships with her co-host and Bake Off judges, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
She has previously described working with Noel, Prue and Hollywood as “one of the great pleasures of my life… these are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television."
The presenter added that working on the baking series was all-consuming “as my waistline will testify”, and that Bake Off is a “wonderful programme which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves.”
However, her co-stars are not as excited to see her go, and have taken to social media to share their heartfelt messages.
Noel shared a photo of them both, writing, "I feel like Tom without Jerry ! Mick without Keef ! I’m gonna miss you Sandi and our strange and magical double act. it’s been a joy to hang out and muck about in the Tent with you. thank you for 3 wonderful years ! You will always be my favourite Ewok Viking ! x x x x x x x x"
Prue Leith also shared a photo of the four of them, saying, "I have absolutely loved working with Sandi, she's been a brilliant host and enormous fun and I am in awe of how hard she works juggling so many different projects. We shall be lifelong friends' way beyond the tent. #GBBO #sanditoksvig #friendship"
Channel 4's director of programmes, Ian Katz also said that Sandi was "a huge part of why Bake Off’s move to Channel 4 has been such a success," and "we will miss her warmth and wit, not to mention her endless willingness to be the butt of jokes about being the least tall person in the Bake Off tent.”
One baker from that tent also wrote on Noel's post, with Rahul saying, "Love you both. Will going to miss Sandi on the screen with you. The bake off experience will be different with you and Sandi's double act and jokes, most of which kind of introduced me to modern humor!!"
Even James McAvoy shared his sadness, saying he was "gutted" Sandi was leaving.
Fans of the show and of the Sandi have been flooding their messages of support, with one user posting, "I love Sandy. She is amazing. Sad to see her go. Wishing her the best" while another said, "Loved Sandi and Noel together, absolutely hilarious. Nothing lasts forever, good luck Sandi"
