The actress shares some candid details with fans.
Australian actress and director Madeleine West has taken to Instagram to share a touching tribute to a friend who miscarried while pregnant with her daughter 11 years ago.
Although she did not name her friend, the 39-year-old shared a heartfelt post, including a sonogram image of the baby and a detailed letter she wrote at the time.
"I didn’t forget, my darling girl!...I never ever will. Today that little bundle of #hope would have turned 11...had she not been called on to greater things before we had the chance to meet her," she began her caption.
"And so, on the following pages, I’ve reprinted the little #tribute I wrote to her, to you, to all of us who have loved and lost, yet so rarely get to speak out loud the #heartbreak of #miscarriage ... she is and will always be your #baby, you her #Mummy.
"And I will reprint these words to remind the #world that she was here, on this day every year, for the rest of our #lives...#happybirthday #happy #waitingtobeborn day."
The actress who has five children of her own was inundated with messages of support and heartbreaking comments detailing the personal stories of other women who also lost a baby in the past.
"Lost my little poppet at 9 weeks. I longed for them so much but they slipped away. They are always in our hearts," one mum wrote.
"I miscarried my first child in April, I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant with my [rainbow] baby," another commented.
Fathers also contributed to the post and shared their similar stories.
"My (recently separated) wife and I lost a little boy, Jai Patrick at 24 weeks gestation and she had to go through the process of labour and give birth to our angel baby," a dad added.
"It was the hardest day of my life, but I never had that connection that she did with our boy as he was growing inside of her," he continued.
"I hated how she blamed herself for us losing him, he was just needed somewhere else to spread his angel wings. We had 2 gorgeous girls after that, the second had lots of issues and I swear our boy helped her through it all and she’s now 8 years old and has such a kind and loving heart. I have so much respect for mothers that have lost their babies and mothers who have their babies."
