Inside Australia's most luxurious Coles

Ice cream parlour and DIY orange juice station? Yes please.

While most Australian supermarkets have gone into overdrive through Coronavirus, one Coles in Australia has quietly been creating the country's most luxurious grocery shopping experience yet: Coles Local.

Nestled in the leafy suburban area of Rose Bay in Sydney, the art deco building has been refurbished into a glamorous warehouse space for the discerning shopper - complete with polished concrete floors and immaculately designed aisles for its new signature products.

Not only is the supermarket equipped with the regular grocery products, this new Coles also offers an ice cream parlour of individual Japanese mochi ice creams, macarons and mini gelato cones.

It also offers a DIY orange juice station where you can make your own refreshing juice and an entire self-serve section of pet treats.

Yes, just like the nuts section at your usual local shops, this Coles has dedicated an area for your dog to pick up some of their favourite snacks.

It also has a self-serve coffee bar and more than 350 ready-to-eat meals that can be prepared in less than 30 minutes.

The Coles Local also caters geneously for vegetarians and vegans, offering the largest range of plant-based groceries of any Coles in the state.

And unlike most chain supermarkets, this Coles is endorsing its local counterparts, by featuring local butcher, Field to Fork and bakery sensation, Sonoma to supply products.

The progressive nature also extends to its local charities, partnering with non-for-profit, Print35 which provides employment for people with disabilities.

The supermarket is also taking on sustainability, with all staff uniforms made from 65 per cent recycled bottles, trolleys are partly made with recycled plastic.

Boxes will be offered to customers instead of plastic bags, and any unsold food that isn’t fresh enough to be donated to food-rescue organisation, Secondbite will be transferred into an organic bin to be recycled into compost or converted into energy.

The supermarket opens today in Rose Bay, being the first of the new Coles Local chain in the state.

It follows two others that have recently opened in Melbourne - totalling just three across the country.
