The wife of the Hollywood heavyweight gets candid in a brand new interview.
Deborra-Lee Furness has hit back at tabloids who have for years speculated the sexuality of her husband, Hugh Jackman.
“I see these magazines and they’re so mean-spirited,” the 64-year-old actress in an interview on Anh's Brush with Fame.
“I hope people realise it’s all made up,” she continued.
Deborra - who has been married to Hugh since 1996 - shares two adopted children, son Oscar, 20, and daughter Ava, 15, with The Greatest Showman star.
In an open conversation on the show, Deborra addressed the reports which claimed her husband was ‘gay’. She also said she's copped a rumour or two. "For so many years, I was ‘gay’ too when I did [the 1988 film] Shame. They were shocked when I got married,” she said.
“It’s just wrong," Deborra added. "It’s like someone saying to Elton John, ‘Oh, he’s straight.’ I’m sure he’d be pissed! And so what! What are we discussing here? … Is he a vegetarian? … Is he gay?"
This is not the first time the couple has dismissed the rumours, in fact back in 201, Hugh admitted, "If I was, I would be."
"I don’t think — it’s to me not the most interesting thing about a person anyway, but ah — I do get frustrated for Deb, 'cause I see Deb go, 'Ah, this is crazy,'" he said at the time.
In fact, most recently, the couple appear to be going from strength to strength.
Speaking to Extra in June, Hugh said being under lockdown with his wife during the pandemic has helped them become "closer" than ever before.
"Literally, my wife is dancing behind the camera as we speak," Hugh said.
"We were just saying the other day — we have never spent this much time together. But having this time without either of us working, being with the family … we've had this opportunity to be together, and the results are in: closer."
Too sweet, we wish Deborra-Lee and Hugh all the best!
